OTOFIX D1 Review on Porsche Macan

Got an OTOFIX D1 scanner (standard version, not a Lite or Pro version), It's cheap and does what I need.

Recent things I was able to do to the Macan were:

1) Due to the bi-directional function, I was able to trouble-shoot a failing door lock actuator, by toggling it on and off remotely with the OTOFIX.

2) Due to the bi-directional function, I was able to trouble-shoot a situation where the front/passenger seat memory was not functional, and initially thought it was the door switch, but found out through running a test on the switch itself (which was good) and then a seat motor calibration routine (which produced an error) that it was one of the lumbar motors in the 18-way power seat that was causing the memory switch to not be functionable.

3) After issues with the mechatronic (valve body) unit in the PDK, where I had to remove it on two separate occasions for repairs, I needed the OTOFIX to (A) refill the PDK fluid, as the temperature needs to be in a particular window for the fill routine, and (B) perform a three-step calibration, adaptation, clutch bite point reset for when you remove and re-install the mechatronic.

The D1 can also read transmission temps which I will need for the PDK fluid change and reset all the services. TBF, the AP200 which is $50, also does that too but can’t do any of the calibrations

In short, if these are the sorts of things that you wish to be able to do if needed, the OTOFIX is a great tool to have, but if all you are looking to do is read codes, do oil service resets, battery registrations and DIY brake jobs (which require the rear brake pistons to be electronically put into service position), then just get one of the more simple tools like the AP200. Just know that the AP200, while inexpensive, allows you to register it to only one vehicle, the Macan for example, for free. Any additional vehicle modules will need to be purchased around $20 USD each, and even then, use of those extra modules expire in one year and would need to be renewed at the same cost to continue using them.
